Biography - William Jackson
William B. Jackson, the hack driver, is a typical Southern gentleman of the old school. He was born in Washington County, Tennessee, July 18, 1842. He was reared on a farm and followed this pursuit until the war broke out, when he enlisted in the Confederate army, serving to the end of the war. In November, 1871, he came North, stopping in Roodhouse and has resided here ever since. His first work here was on the police force as night watchman, he being the first person to hold this office. In 1878 he was elected Justice of the Peace and served one term. For the past twelve years he has been in the transfer business and is well known to the traveling public. He is clever, courteous and accommodating and enjoys a good share of the public patronage.
