Services Held Saturday For Raymond Early
Raymond Early, 54, a former employee of Winchester Rural Electrical Co., died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, December 29 at Boyd Memorial hospital. He had been in failing health for two and one-half years with heat trouble, and had entered the hospital Wednesday.
He was born near Manchester April 7, 1906, son of Thomas and Harriett Riley Early. He was married to the former Ruth Barnard of White Hall, in 1935.
Mr. Early is survived by his wife; two sons, Jack and Dennis; one sister, Mrs. Carl Vorhies; and three brothers, Willis of Palmyra, Ben and Schuyler. One sister, Miss Ora Early preceded him in death in 1954.
Services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Our Redeemer Lutheran church of which he was a member. The officiating minister was the Rev. Alfred Schroeder of Jerseyville, and music was furnished by Mrs. Orville Lovekamp, organist.
Pallbearers were Clarence Smith, Leroy Scoggins, Claude Pruitt, Herman Jilg, Louis Hall, and Mayor Richard Giller. Interment was in the Carrollton City Cemetery with the Simpson Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Robert Lee Dies Wednesday In Peoria
Mrs. Grace Crum Lee, 77, died early Wednesday morning, August 16, in a Peoria hospital. She was a former resident of Berdan on R. R. 4.
A daughter of Pleasant and Susan Crum, Mrs. Lee was born February 2, 1884 in Greene County. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee, a daughter, Mrs. Harold Muntz of Peoria, a brother, Curtis Crum of Roodhouse; a sister, Mrs. Rosa Harvey of Derby, Kans., and a granddaughter.
Charles Pine of Jerseyville will conduct the funeral services Friday at 2 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the White Hall cemetery.

J. D. Moore Dies Unexpectedly At His Home Sunday
Jefferson Daniel Moore, 67, died at 3 a.m. Sunday at his home. He had suffered with a heart condition for some time but his death was unexpected. He was a veteran of World War I, and was a contract lumber buyer.
Mr. Moore was born at West Fork, Mo. On September 15, 1894, a son of the late James Henry and Mille Jane Lawson Moore.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mina Moore; two daughters, Mrs. Zeldura Parker of Boss, Mo.; and Mrs. Ursula Unland of St. Louis; one step-daughter, Mrs. Mildred Yount of Hillsboro; three sons, J. L. Moore and Donald D. Moore of Overland in St. Louis Co., and James M. Moore of Dorsey, Ill.; 7 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
The Rev. Harry Chasteen, pastor of the Baptist Church in White Hall, conducted the funeral rites on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Lawrence Thien was organist for the service.
Casketbearers were Glenn Skaggs, George Andrews, Floyd Kimbro, John Gillingham, Jr. Timothy Smith of White Hall and D. E. Brummett of Jerseyville. Interment was in the White Hall Cemetery.

Funeral Rites For Avery L. Dowdall Saturday
Rev. Darwin K. Rolens, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Carrollton, conducted funeral services on Saturday, December 30, at 2 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral Home Chapel for Avery L. Dowdall, 93, of Rockbridge.
Mrs. Lawrence Thien, organist, played soft music before and during the service.
Mr. Dowdall, a retired farmer, was born on September 18, 1868, in Greene County, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hayden Dowdall. He had lived in Rockbridge since his retirement, and he was a member of the Providence Church east of Carrollton.
He died at 11 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, in the Alton Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient there for a week following a hip fracture.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Flossie Kaffer of Rockbridge, who made her home with her father; a sister, Miss Hayde Dowdall of Carrollton; a grandson, Jack Dale Dowdall, and a great-grandson, Kenneth Dowdall. His wife, the former Emma Huff, died in 1949 and he was also preceded in death by a son, Vaughn.
Casketbearers were Frank Kuhnline, Porter Stevens, William Meyer, William Stotler, Henry Carl Steinacher and Donold Decker. Interment was in the City Cemetery.
