Funeral Mass for Mrs. Mary Ann Bock, 56, of Brighton was celebrated Wednesday morning at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brighton with Rev. George Radosevich of SS. Peter and Paul’s Church as celebrant. Burial was in Brighton Cemetery. Her death occurred December 30 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Alton.
She was born July 12, 1917 in Granite City a daughter of Mathis Kudelka sr., of Godfrey and the late Mrs. Anna Kudelka. She was employed as a practical nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital for ten years until retiring in 1964 due to failing health.
Survivors are her husband, Carl; a son, Carl jr., of Brighton; one daughter, Mrs. Ron Dwyer of Brighton; her father, six grandchildren; a brother, Mathis Kudelka, jr., Godfrey; and two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Billbruck of Alton and Mrs. Olga Vizer of Granite City. [04 Jan 1973]

THE WELL-KNOWN DR WAS A DECENDANT OF DR ASA SNELL, THE FIRST PRACTICING PHYSICIAN IN JERSEY CO, WHO CAME HERE IN 1833 FROM VERMONT. AS A YOUNG MAN HE TAUGHT IN THE RURAL SCHOOLS OF JERSEY CO AND AT FIDELITY AND OTTERVILLE. AS SOON AS SCHOOLS WRE DISMISSED FOR SUMMER VACATIONS HE BECAME A STUDENT AND STUDIED MEDICINE AT ILL MED COLLEGE IN CHICAGO. IN 1904 HE RECEIVED HIS DEGREE IN MEDICINE AND FOR 8 MONTHS ENGAGED IN PRACTICE IN NIOTAZA, KS, AND THEN RETURNED TO JERSEY CO WHERE FOR MORE THAN 50 YRS HE MINISTERED TO SEVERAL GENERATIONS OF FAMILIES. THOSE WHO SOUGHT HIS MEDICAL AID KNEW THAT THE FEE WOULD BE SMALL AND IN MANY CASES THE PHYSICIAN MADE NO CHARGE AT AALL. UPON LOCATING IN JERSEYVILLE HE OPENED AN OFFFICE IN THE SNEDEKER BUILDING ON N STATE ST, LATTER MOVING TO QUARTERS IN THE IOOF BUILDING WHERE HE REMAINED FOR 39 YRS. IN RECENT YRS DR BOAHNNAN HAD OFFICES OVER KIRBY DRUG STORE. IN 1953 DR BOHANNAN WAS GIVEN COMMUNITY WIDE RECOGNITION AS HE BEGAN HIS 49th YR OF PRACTICE IN JERSEY CO. A FUND WAS STARTED FOR A SUPRISE GIFT FOR THE PHY AND HIS MANY FRI ENDS AND PATIENTS WERE ANXIOUS TO TAKE PART IN THE PROJECT. BECAUSE OF HIS INTEREST IN SPORTS IT WAS DECIDED TO GIVE HIM A TELEVISION. WHEN MORE MONEY WAS RECEIVED THAN THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE SET, OTHER GIFTS WERE PURCHASED ANDJ PRESENTED TO HIM. THE FOLLOWING YR DR BOHANNAN AND DR F N McLAREN OF WHITE HALL WERE HONORED BY THE JERSEY & GREENE CO MEDICAL SOCIETIES AS THEY MARKED THEIR 50 YRS OF PRACTICE. A DINNER WAS HELD IN JERSEEYVILLE IN THEIR HONOR AND THEY WERE PRESENTED GOLD SREVICE PINS AND PORTABLE RADIOS. WHEN INTERVIEWED IN 1953, DR BOHANNAN ESTIMATED HE HAD DELIVEREED ABOUT 1800 BABIES. DURING HIS YRS OF PRACTICE HE HAD USED MANY MODES OF TRAVEL TO REACH HIS PATIENTS. UNTIL HIS ILLNESS, DR BOHANNAN SELDOM MISSED A DAY AT HIS OFFICE AND FOR MANY YRS HE HAD OFFICE HRS 7 DAYS A WEEK AND EVENING HRS ALSO. DURING THE IINFLUENZA EPIDEMIC IN WW I THE JERSEYVILLE PHY HARDLY HAD HIS CLOTHES OFF FOR 5 WKS, EITHER DAY OF NIGHT, WHILE MINISTERING TO THE VICTIMS OF THE MALADY. DR BOHANNAN HAD BEEN AFFILIATED WITH BLUE LODGE NO 394, AF & AM, SINCE MAY 23, 1898 AND HAD RECEIVED A 50 YR MASONIC JEWL. HE HAD SERVED AS HIGH PRIEST OF THE ROYAL ARCH CHAPT. HE SERVED CONTINUOUSLY AS A MEMBER OF THE JERSEYVILLE BUILDING LOAN & HOMESTEAD ASSOC SINCE JUNE 11, 1928, AND AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH WAS VICE PRES OF THE JERSEY SAVINGS & LOAN ASSOC. DR BOHANNAN HAD BEEN AFFILIATED WITH THE JERSEY CO MEDICAL SOC FOR MANY YRS AND WAS PAST PRES OF THE SOC. HE WAAS MARRIED AUG 12, 1917 TO AGNES (LENZ) BOHANNAN OF JERSEYVILLE, WHO SURVIVES HIM. SHE MARRIED REV BENJAMIN BOHN IN 1929, IN ST LOUIS AND HE D MAY 5, 1969. SURVIVING ARE 1 DAU, VIRGINIA HALL OF CARROLLTON; AND 3 GRANDCHILDREN. 2 HALF BRO PRECEDED HER IN DEATH. Native of Hungary Dies at Delhi Home - George Boker, 73, a native of Austria Hungary, died at his home near Delhi Thursday morning, September 20, at 9:50 o’clock following a six weeks’ illness. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, September 23, from the Delhi church, Rev. J. W. Smith of Jerseyville officiating. Interment was in the Marston cemetery.
Mr. Boker had resided in the United States for several years and for the last few years had resided on a farm near Delhi.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Boker, one step-son, Paul Kokes of Delhi and one step-daughter, Mrs. Aloc Bandy of Monterey, Ind. [1934]

Mrs. John Bond of Dow Vicinity Died Saturday - Mrs. John S. Bond, Sr., a resident of the Dow vicinity for the past five years, died Saturday afternoon, August 21, at 3:30 o’clock at the Memorial Hospital in Alton where she had been moved earlier in the week.
Before moving to Dow she had resided in Alton.
Surviving are her husband and four children, Mrs. Erma Dickmann, Mrs. Glaunda Campbell and John Bond, jr., of Alton and Tillman W. Bond of Rivera, California. She also leaves six grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral rites were held Tuesday morning, August 24, at ten o’clock at the Twelfth Street Presbyterian Church in Alton with the Rev. Paul S. Krebs officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Forty Years Ago - Norman A. Boring died at his home in this city following an attack of quick consumption. He had been in poor health during the previous summer, but died nine days after he had taken to his bed. He was aged 69 years and was survived by his wife and four daughters.[12 Nov 1948]

Miss Madeline Florence Borman, only child of George F. and Myrtle Borman, died Monday, aged 14 years and 3 months. The funeral service was held at the residence Tuesday afternoon, and was conducted by Elder Wm. Gaither. The interment was in Dayton cemetery. The bearers were six young men, cousins of the deceased, Leo, Martin, Harry, Arthur, and Clyde Borman, and Otis A. Ferguson. Madeline was born Nov. 7, 1901, and though she suffered a great part of her life, she was always patient and had a smile for everyone. Relatives from out of town who were here to the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Mayo Barnes, Mr. and Mrs. Truman Barnes, Mrs. Allen Ferguson and son Otis, all of St. Louis; Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Parks of Greenfield, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Hudson of Roodhouse, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Borman of Godfrey, Mrs. Mike Henkel of Kane. Forty Years Ago - Mrs. A. H. Bosarage died at her home in Bayou La Batra, Ala., following the birth of a child, which was buried with her. She was a former Greenfield girl, her maiden name being Anna Emmons, and her age was 26 years. Her body was brought back to Greenfield for burial. [Feb 1948]

Mother of Jersey Resident Dies - Mrs. Emma Augusta Botkin of Wood River, mother of Mrs. J. W. Holmes of Jerseyville, died suddenly at her home last Friday evening after returning home from a service at the Assembly of God church in Woodriver. Death was due to natural causes.
Mrs. Botkin is the widow of James Wyatt Botkin. She was born near Otterville and spent her early live in Jersey county, and for the past fifteen years she has lived in Woodriver.
The deceased is survived by eight children including; Mrs. Fay Hart and Mrs. Golda Derrington of Pasadena, Texas, Miss Dorothy Botkin of Woodriver, who is an ordained minister. Mrs. Ina Radcliff, St. Charles, Mo., Mrs. J. W. Holmes of Jerseyville, Mrs. Cora Bartlett of Godfrey, Mrs. Lavina Johannpeter, Ponca City, Oklahoma and a son James S. Botkin of Los Angeles, California.

WILLIAM H BOTKIN, 70, A FORMER RESIDENT OF OTTER CREEK TWSP, DIED SEPT 7 [1958] AT HIS HOME IN TULSA, OK. MR BOTKIN WAS A BRO OF MRS JOSEPHINE PREGLER OF KANE AND A COUSIN OF MRS GEORGE BUSCH OF THE OTTERVILLE VICINITY. MR BOTKIN, A SON OF THE LATE WILLIAM D & ALMIRA M BOTKIN AND WAS BORN NOV 13, 1887, AT FENICE, ILL. HE GREW TO MANHOOD ON A FARM NEAR OTTERVILLE. HE HAD RESIDED IN KTULSA SINCE 1909 WHERE HE WAS WIDELY KNOWN AS THE "CURBSTONE PREACHER" WHO HAD HANDED OUT AN ESTIMATED 6,240,000 RELIGIOUS TRACTS DURING HIS 20 YR TULSA "STREET MINISTRY". THE TRACTS BOTKIN HANDED OUT WERE INTERDENOMINATIONAL. HE, HOWEVER, WAS A DEDICATED MEMBER OF THE CENTRAL ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH AND WAS THE BUILDING CONTRACTOR FOR THE CHURCH WHICH BURNED DOWN AT 5th AND PEORIA AVES IN TULSA A FEW YRS AGO. NOT BEING ORDAINED OR QUALIFIED FOR THE MINISTRY, BOTKIN STARTED OUT HELPING WHEREEVER HE COULD AND THEN BEGAN PASSING OUT TRACTS. HE WAS A FAMILIAR FIGURE AT 3rd AND MAIN STS IN TULSA WHERE HE WENT 6 DAYS A WK FOR 20 YRS AND HANDED OUT AN AVERAGE OF 1,000 TRACTS A DAY. HE HAD BEEN IN FAILING HEALTH FOR SOMETIME AND HAD DISTRIBUTED HIS LAST TRACT ON AUG 29. BEFORE ENGAGING IN THE SIDEWALK MINISTRY, MR BOTKIN WAS KNOWN IN THE REAL ESTATE AND CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS. BEFORE DOING CONSTRUCTION WORK HE WAS AN OFFICE EMPLOYEE OF THE HEWITT RUBBER CO. Matthias Boushka died at his home 7 miles northwest of Jerseyville, Monday, November 6, 1922, at 5:30 a. m. at the age of 57 years, 8 months and 13 days.
The decedent is survived by the wife and two sons, Leo and Charlie Boushka, both residents of Jersey County.
Funeral Services will be held from the church of the Holy Ghost Wednesday, November 8th, at 9:00 a. m. Rev. Father John H. Gramke will celebrate the High Mass. Interment will be in St. Peter and St. Paul’s Cemetery, St. Louis.

Elizabeth Bowers, 84, died at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Born in Jacksonville, daughter of the late Leroy and Laura (Lorton) Harrison she married Harry Hardwick, who died in 1960. Then, in 1964, she married Otis Bowers, who preceded her in death in 1980. Surviving, are a daughter, June Lewis of Alton; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until time of services at 11 a.m. at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton with the Rev. Terry Turner officiating.
