his son J.F. Doyle, passed away unexpectedly by the road side as
he was returning home on his pony from the pasture on Sunday,
May 20. He was a native of Greene Co. and a resident of the town

Dr. Walter S. Dressel died of pneumonia, following an attack
of influenza, at his rooms at the H.W. Foreman residence, last
Friday afternoon at 4:45. He had been ill about ten days before
his death, but up to last Thursday was thought to be improving.
Dr. Dressel had been a resident of this city for the past nine
years, having opened an office for the practice of osteopathy
here in 1909.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dressel, at Old Kane, the service
being conducted out on the front porch, by Rev. Christie
Galeener of this city, assisted by Rev. Timmons of Kane. A
quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. George Clough, Mrs. Ed Smith
and [unable to access the remaining parts of this article.]
Dr. W. S. Dressel of Edwardsville, who was taken sick with the
influenza while here caring for his twin brother, Dr. W. E.
Dressel, took a relapse this week, and was again in a serious
condition Tuesday, but was better yesterday. He and all his
family have been down with the disease at their home in
Edwardsville.
Dr. Warren S. Dressel died at Edwardsville at
4:10 this morning, just twenty days after the death of his twin
brother, Dr. Walter E. Dressel.
John Stout sang. The bearers were Marcus Turney, Ben Eldred,
Delbert Driver, W.E. Hamilton, Chas. E. Clark and Jacob Borlin.
The interment was at the Kane cemetery.
Walter S. Dressel, son of Joseph and Minerva
Hudson Dressel, was born at Old Kane May 13, 1880. After
graduating from the Jerseyville high school, he entered the
American School of Osteopathy at Kirksville, Mo., from which he
graduated in 1902.
He began the practice of his chosen profession at Toulon, Stark
county, remaining there six years. He left there to take a short
rest on account of poor health. On recovering he came to
Carrollton and opened an office in the fall of 1909. He had been
actively engaged in his professional work since then and up to
the hour he was taken ill. In these nine years he had become
identified with the interests of the community, in the
religious, social and business activities and was liberal in the
support of all movements for advancement.
He made a profession of Christian faith and joined the Methodist
church at Kane when he was 15 years old, and on coming here
became identified with the local church. At the time of his
death he was a member of the official board of the church. His
clean-cut, exemplary life will be an inspiration to many. His
interest in community affairs and in the general welfare of the
town made him a valuable citizen. He had been for several years
a director of the People’s bank in this city.
Beside his parents, he leaves three brothers and three sisters.
The brothers are Fred L., who is farming near Kane, Dr. Warren
E. Dressel of Edwardsville and Harold J., at home; the sisters,
Mrs. Mattie Richards, of Kane, Miss Jessie M. Dressel, at home,
and Miss Adelaide Dressel, teaching in Minot, N.D. Dr. Warren
Dressel was the twin brother of the decedent, and is also an
osteopathic physician. He was with his brother during his
sickness, [illegible] went home ill with the influenza
[illegible] his brother’s death.

The funeral of Dr. Warren E. Dressel of
Edwardsville was held Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Dressel, at Old Kane. His death, mentioned last
week, followed twenty days after that of his twin brother, Dr.
Walter S. Dressel of this city.
Dr. Warren Dressel was born at Old Kane May 13, 1880. He began
practicing his profession, osteopathy, in this city and remained
here five years. After a year’s rest, he located at Edwardsville
and has been there six years. He and Miss Lucile Greene were
married at Sioux Falls, S. D., Dec. 27, 1906. His wife and one
son, Joseph Hathaway, survive; also his parents, three sisters
and two brothers. His exemplary life made him a valuable citizen
in his community.

Charles Drumh, aged 91 years, 8 months and
20 days, died at the County Farm Sunday evening, April 23, at
9:?? O’clock where he had made his home for the past seven
years. He had been in ill health for several weeks.
The deceased was born near Carrollton on June 3, 1841, but for
many years had been a resident of Jersey county.
Mr. Drumh is survived by eight children, Mrs. Jesse Reynolds of
this city, Mrs. Wm. Johnson of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mrs. Anna
Peters of St. Louis, Mrs. Jake Wilhelm and Mrs. Henry Shaw of
Carrollton, Mrs. Wm. Cummings of Dow, Mrs. Rosco Orten of White
Hall and George Dewey Drumh of Carrollton, twenty-eight
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from Gubser’s Chapel in this city
Wednesday afternoon, April 26, at two o’clock, Rev. W. A.
Steinkraus officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Funeral of John W. Dugan, Civil War veteran,
for many years a resident of Jersey Co., will be held today at 2
p.m. from the residence of Mr. & Mrs. C. C. Roady in Kane, where
his death occurred Saturday. Burial will be in Oak Grove
Cemetery in Jerseyville. – 83 years - Arrangements for funeral
delayed to enable a son, Clarence Dugan, of Portland, Oregon to
be present.

John Duggan an old and respected resident of
Rosedale met his death quite suddenly last week. He was
returning home from Grafton on Monday and fell out of his buggy
and received injuries by the fracturing of his skull of which he
died at the residence of Nelson Williams on Thanksgiving Day.
The remains were taken to Grafton and the funeral services
conducted at St. Patrick’s Church, Saturday, Dec. 2nd, after
which the remains were laid to rest in the Grafton cemetery
followed by a large assembly of friends. Mr. Duggan will be very
much missed at Rosedale as he was an honest and well respected
citizen and one of the best posted men in the State on political
and national affairs of our government. [Dec 1899]

We have been informed that Thos. Dunaway,
William Rollins and some others suspected of horse stealing and
other criminal acts, were visited by some of the aggrieved
parties in the Illinois Bottom, near the Finney Landing in this
county, and after hanging Dunaway and Rollins, the former was
shot and killed. Rollins, being also wounded, was supposed to be
dead. He, however escaped.
It is to be hoped that these disgraceful outrages may soon be
checked, and that all the parties engaged in these crimes may be
speedily ferreted out, and the laws vindicated. [Jersey County

Isaiah C. Duncan, aged 85 years, 3 months
and 20 days, died at his home in Grafton, Saturday, March 28th,
at 11:10 p.m. The deceased was the son of Elijah and Elizabeth
Elliott Duncan and was born in Franklin County, Mo., December 7,
1845.
Mr. Duncan is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth J. Duncan, three
sons, George E. and Harry of Alton, and W. F. Duncan of Grafton;
two daughters, Mrs. Dora Claridge of St. Louis, and Mrs. Ida
Legate of Grafton; one half-sister, Mrs. Samantha Pounds of
Festus, Mo., and one half-brother, John Retcher of DeSota, Mo.
One daughter, Mrs. Cora Kaslich and one son, Leroy, preceded
their father in death.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Grafton,
Tuesday, March 31st, at 2:00 p.m., Re. C. H. Miller officiating.
Services were under the auspices of the Full Moon Lodge, A. F. &
A. M., No. 345, of Grafton, and interment was in the Meadow
Branch Cemetery.
White Hall - James Franklin Duncan died Mar
2, 1899, 61 yrs, 3 mo 25 days buried Greenfield.
Mrs. John Q. Duncan died at her home a mile
southwest of this city after an illness of several weeks, which
terminated in quick consumption. Her maiden name was May
Violetta Nichols and her age was 50 years. She was

Born in Eldred July 22, 1915, she was the daughter of George L.
and Gertrude E.
(Parker) Talley. She married Lester B. Dunham Oct. 28, 1933, in
Carrollton, and
he died Nov. 29, 1965.

She was a machine operator at Roper Plastics Co. in Jerseyville.
She is survived by her husband Larry L. Dunham, who she married
Jan. 10, 1970; one daughter Julie Ann, at home; her father and
mother Russell Wayne Kinser of Roxana and Mrs. Virginia Russell
of Carrollton; two brothers, Othal and David Kinser both of
Carrollton and a maternal grandfather.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral
Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Richard Steinbach will
conduct services at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Oak
Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Virginia Evelyn DUNNAGAN, 80, formerly of Alton, died
Wednesday,
Jan. 8, 2003, in New Mexico. Arrangements are pending at Staten
Funeral Home in Alton.

Virginia Evelyn DUNNAGAN, 80, of Demming, N.M., former
longtime Alton resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Silver City Care
Center.
She was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Alton, to Andrew and Hazel (Flatt) Coates.
She married James Dunnagan, and he died in 1989.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Laclede Steel Company as a
diesetter.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by a sister and brother-in-law,
Louise and Robert Holmes of Kingman, Ariz.; two brothers and a
sister-in-law, James and Peggie Coates of Peoria, Ariz., Andrew Coates of
Hardin; several nieces and nephews, other extended family and many dear
friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers,
Robert E. and William E. Coates; and two sisters, Eileen Duncan and Garnett
Fields.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside services for family and friends will be held at noon Tuesday at
Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to a fund of one’s choice.

The many friends and acquaintances of Mr. David
Dunsdon, of this city, will be surprised to learn of
his sudden death. He was taken sick on Saturday, and died the
following Monday morning. We have not learned the nature of the
disease whichh snatched him away from his family and friends so

A most distressing accident occurred near Delhi about two
weeks since. A little daughter of F. T. M.
Dutcher, aged about four years, while playing
with some companions, caught her dress on fire from some burning
brush near the house and was so badly injured that she died the
next morning. It was a terrible blow to the parents, of whom she
was the idol, being remarkable gentle and affectionate and loved
