FATAL ILLNESS WEDNESDAY WHILE OPERATING A DRAGLINE NEAR THE
FULKERSON BRIDGE NORTH OF JERSEYVILLE. HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT
THE JERSEY COMM. HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS MOVED IN THE JACOBY BROS.
AMBULANCE. DEATH WAS ATTRIBUTED TO A CORONARY ATTACK. MR. MUNDY
HAD BEEN AN EMPLOYEE OF THE COUNTY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT FOR THE
PAST THIRTY YEARS SERVING UNDER EUGENE WITT AND THE LATE PAXTON
WITT. FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF THE LATTER MR. MUNDY SERVED AS
ACTING SUPERINTENDENT FOR TWO YEARS, AND THEN BECAME ASSISTANT
SUPERINTENDENT WORKING WITH THE PRESENT SUPERINTENDENT, GEORGE
C. CLAUSEN. THE DECEDENT WAS BORN IN GREENE COUNTY, JAN. 22,
1901, A SON OF THE LATE JOHN T. AND ANNA BELLE CRAWFORD MUNDY.
HIS AGE AT THE TIME OF DEATH WAS FIFTY SIX YEARS, NINE MONTHS
AND TWENTY ONE DAYS. MR. MUNDY IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, MRS.
LILLIE DUNHAM MUNDY; FOUR DAUGHTERS, MRS. ALONZO COCHRAN OF
ELDORADO, MRS. HUGH SNELL OF JERSEYVILLE, MRS. GILBERT TURNER
AND MISS REBECCA MUNDY OF JERSEYVILLE; ONE BROTHER, SHERMAN

JACOBS LUMBER AND COAL CO. OF WHICH HE BECAME A PARTNER IN 1954.
IN 1956, IT BECAME THE MUNDY LUMBER AND SUPPLY CO., IN WHICH HE
WAS ACTIVE UNTIL THREE WEEKS AGO. HE WAS BORN IN KANE, THE SON
OF THE LATE JAMES A. AND GRACE (WHEELER) MUNDY. HE MARRIED THE
FORMER VIVIAN DOWNEY SEP 2, 1933 IN JERSEYVILLE AND SHE
