OPPORTUNITIES WERE LIMITED, BUT HE SET BRAVELY TO WORK,
RECOGNIZING THAT THE FIRST DUTY HE OWED TO HIMSELF WAS TO SECURE
AN EDUCATION. HE ATTENDED PUBLIC SCHOOL, AND AT 16 OBTAINED A
FIRST GRADE TEACHER'S CERTIFICATE. FROM THIS TIME UNTIL HE WAS

ADVANCED TO THEIR PRESENT HIGH POSITION. FOR 20 CONSECUTIVE YRS
HE WAS IDENTIFIED WITH THE EDUCATIONAL INTERESTS, SERVING AS A
MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL BOARD, AT TIMES BEING THE PRESIDENT OF
SAME. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FIRST CITY SCHOOL BOARD THAT

HE DIED IN JAN 1938. SURVIVING ARE 3 CHILDREN, JANE GOTHARD OF DAHINDA,
ABBIE OLSON OF MINNETONKA, MINN, AND PERRY VOORHEES OF VAIDEN, MISS; 12
GRANDCHILDREN; 12 G-GRANDCHILDREN; AND 1 G-G-GRANDCHILD. PRECEDING HER IN
