Frances Mae Woodring, 72, d unexpectedly
Dec 30, 1990, at Jersey Comm Hosp. She retired as a cook from
Green Lawn Nursing Home, Jerseyville. Born in Kane, she was the
dau of the late William Edward & Beulah Mae (Osbun) Estes. On
Apr 11, 1935, in Hardin, she married Odie G Woodring. He d Nov
26, 1981. Surviving are 2 sons, Marline Eugene Woodring,
Jerseyville and Samuel Franklin Woodring, Medora; 5 daus, Gwen
Calvert, Janet Delores Gettings and Barbara Kay Cain, all of
Jerseyville, Phylis Vinyard, Roodhouse and Carolyn Sue Glass,
Wood River; 22 grandchildren; 30 g-grandchildren; 2 bros, Donald
Eugene Estes, Henderson, NV and Thomas Isaac Estes, Jerseyville;
and 2 sis, Mary Lea Buhs, Charlotte, MI and Henrietta Dorsey,
Moro; and 1 half sis, Betty Singleton, Yelma, Wash. Visitation
was from Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home with services there on
Thurs. Rev Wilbur Cain officiated. Burial was in Kane Cem.

Odie G Woodring, 68, of Jerseyville, died
Nov 26 [1981], at St Joseph Hosp. The WW II Navy Veteran was
born June 21, 1913 in Ky, a son of John & Stella (Burklow)
Woodring. He was a furnace operator at Olin where he retired in
1975. He is survived by his wife, Frances (Estes) Woodring, whom
he married Apr 11, 1935 in Hardin; 2 sons, Marlin, Jerseyville
and Samuel, Medora; 5 daus, Gwen Calvert, Janet Gettings and
Barbara Cain, Jerseyville; Phyliss Vinyard, Roodhouse and Susie
Glass, Wood River; 24 grandchildren; 6 g-grandchildren; 2 bros,
Lynn Ray Woodring, Henderson, KY and Charles Woodring,
Louisville, Ky.
Catherine Woods, 88, died at her home near
Kane. Funeral by Rev I D Crawford of Baptist church, Kane.
Burial was in Woodville Cem. She had resided with her son Henry.

after the death of his Mother, Catherine Woods, who lived with

John Woods, 53, died at his home 6 m E of
Jerseyville Oct 15, 1898. Born in Hocking Co, OH. He came to
Greene Co, IL with his parents at 5 yrs of age, moved to Jersey
Co when 6. He married Mary Jane (Hunter) Oct 1892. Parents of 5
children, 1 son, died at the age of 5. Funeral from home. Rev T
J Roady of Kane officiated. Burial in Pruitt Cem. Pallbearers:
Charles cooper, C G Roady, Payton Owens, Charles Nevius, Thomas
Day and John Roady.
Tina Marie Woods, 81, died Apr 14 [1987], at
Jersey Comm Hosp. She was born in Greene Co, dau of the late
John C and Minnie Mae (Sterns) Scoggins. In 1921, she married
Douglas Welch, he preceded her in death. Feb 23, 1935, she
married Thomas Allen Woods, in Alton, and he died Dec 2, 1980.
Surviving are 3 sons, Douglas Welch, St Charles, MO, Melvin
Welch, Jerseyville and Norman Woods, Kane; 1 dau, Lois Kallal,
Greenfield; 16 grandchildren; 29 g-grandchildren; 1 bro, Lummie
Scoggins, Alton; and 1 sis, Clay Wikstrom of MN. Visitation was
from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev William
Elder officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cem. Memorials may
be given to Salvation Army of Mooseheart.
Tom A Woods, 71, of Dow, a printer by trade,
died Dec 2 [1980] at Jersey Comm Hosp. Services were held at
Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Oak
Grove Cem. Rev James Pepper officiated. Born Dec 20, 1908, in
McAlester, OK, he was son of William & Ruth (Kirk) Woods. He was
a member of Jerseyville Eagles and Moose Lodges, Legion of Moose
and was past Governor of Moose. Surviving are his wife, Tina
(Scoggins) Woods, whom he married Feb 23, 1935; 3 sons, Douglas
Welch Jr, St Charles, MO Melvin Welch, Jerseyville and Norman
Woods, Kane; 1 dau, Lois Kallal, Jacksonville; 1 bro, Paul
French, Ferguson, MO; 16 grandchildren; 15 g-grandchildren and 2
nephews. His parents and 1 sis preceded him in death.
E D "Bill" Woolsey, 74, of Tulsa, OK, a
native of Kane, died Jan 30 [1985], at St Francis Hosp, Tulsa,
OK. He was born Nov 13, 1911 in Kane son of the late Willaim
Benjamin & Anna (Allen) Woolsey. He was a WW II Veteran of the
US Navy. He went to Oklahoma to attend college and remained. He
was employed for Sears-Roebuck for 10 yrs before joining Oasco.
He retired from Otasco after 30 yrs, where he had been a credit
supervisor. Surviving are his wife, Mary (Creach) Woolsey,
Tulsa, 1 son, Stephen Woolsey, Morris, OK; 4 daus, Sue Ann
Shaddy, Patty Frakes, Joannie Sibole and Barbar Woolsey, all of
Tulsa and 4 grandchildren.
Mrs George Woolsey, 75, died [Jan 1924] at
her home E of Kane. She leaves her husband, George; 4 sons,
Joseph, Carrollton, George, Carlinville, and Fred and Austin
Woolsey, Jerseyville; 4 daus, Mrs Zebb Bell, Jerseyville, Mrs
Ernest Pruitt and Mrs George Watts, Kane, 1 dau preceding her in
death; 2 sis, Mrs Georg Perkins and Mrs Henry Wiseman, of
Jerseyville. Rev Carney officiated the funeral rites at Kane
Baptist Church. Burial in Kane Cem.
Harold Melvin Woolsey, 40 yrs, 3 mo, 3 days,
resident of Brighton, died Nov 29 [1957] at Alton Mem Hosp. He
had been a patient for 10 wks. Funeral services were held Dec 2
at Kane Baptist Church with Rev Darwin Rolens, officiating.
Graveside rites were conducted by the Right Rev Michael Enright
at St John Cem, Carrollton. He was a son of George O & Ella Mae
(Bennet) Woolsey and was born in Jersey Co, Aug 26, 1917. He was
a former employee of the Steel Mill. surviving are his parents;

died Sun [Jan 1971] at Jersey Comm Hosp. Final rites were held
at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev James Pepper
officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cem. She was born Apr 16,
1889 in Cooper Co, MO, dau of Fred & Sarah (Meyers) Hertzberg.

Mary Elizabeth Woolsey, 72 yrs, 2 mo, 4
days, of Jerseyville, died [Oct 1967] at Garnet's Chateau,
Jerseyville. She had been ill for some time. Visitation was held
at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were
held there on Oct 18 with Rev Louis Purcell, pastor of First
Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cem. She
was a dau of the late Joseph & Anna (Albert) Foster and was born
in Greene Co. Surviving is are 2 sons Albert Woolsey and Joseph
Woolsey, Jerseyville; 2 daus, Mrs C W Yocum, Fenton, Mo, and Mrs
Loren Holtman, Trenton, Tn; 7 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren;
1 sis, Mrs Sina Bruns, Alton, and 2 bros, Joseph Foster and
William foster, both of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Edward Woolsey.
Mary L Woolsey, died at the home of Richard
Waddle, near Kane. She was the widow of the late Edward Woolsey
and lived in the county 40 yrs. She leaves 5 children. Funeral

Pearl O Woolsey, 79, died Feb 7, 1989, at
his residence, following a lengthy illness. He had been employed
42 yrs at Laclede Steel Co, Alton, retiring in 1971. Born in
Greene Co, he was the son of the late George O & Ella Mae
(Bennet) Woolsey. He married Grace (Levi) Woolsey July 4, 1936,
in Alton. Surviving are his wife; 1 dau, Lela Mae King,
Jerseyville; 2 grandsons; 7 g-grandchildren; 1 bro, George
Woolsey, Kane; and 3 sis, Irene Martin, Carrollton, Laura Lee
Greene and Eunice Long both of Jerseyville. Preceding him in
death were 1 son, Harold Melvin Woolsey; 1 dau, Ella Marie
Woolsey; and 5 bros. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in
Jerseyville. Revs Kenneth Spires and George Bell officiated.
Burial was in Kane Cem. Memorials may be given to Wood River Tws
Hosp Hospice Unit.
Percilla Ann Woolsey, was born in Onodaga
Co, NY June 11, 1811. She married J B Woolsey May 14, 1831 and
moved to IL in 1833. She had been a widow since Jan 1, 1881.
Surviving are 5 sons, 2 sis, Mrs Edwin Woolsey, and Mrs Johathan
Stark, both of Greenfield. She was preceded in death by her
husband, 1 son; and 2 daus who died in infancy. First
Presbyterian Church. Buried from Methodist Church, Kane with Rev
Tyson. [18 Nov 1889]
Rose Woolsey, 53, of Jerseyville, died May
28 [1981], at Christian Hosp NE, St Louis after a lengthy
illness. Funeral Mass was celebrated at Holy Ghost Church with
FR William Hembrow celebrant. Burial was in St John Cem,
Carrollton. Born in Carrollton March 28, 1928, she was dau of
William & Sophia (Holmes) Schroeder and had been a secretary at
the House of Flowers. She is survived by 4 sons, Richard, Delhi,
Don, Jerseyville, Michael of Hardin and Terry, Ft Campbell, KY;
2 daus, Connie, St Louis and Deann, Jerseyville; 2
grandchildren; 3 bros, Chris Schroeder, Alton, John Schroeder,
Aberdeen, SD and Charles Schroeder, Lindsey, OH; 3 sis, Ethel
Bruns, White Hall, Louise Stone, Springfield and Teresa Vahle,
Godfery. The Rosary was recited and visitation was at Jacoby
Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to
River Bend United Way.

He was son of the late Daniel & Laura (Chism) Woolsey and was
born in Greene Co on Sept 7, 1886. Most of his life was spent in

Clarence Alvin "Pop" Worley, 81, of
Jerseyville, died [May 1930] at Jersey Comm Hosp. Final services
were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev
Carlton Christinson officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cem.
The retired farmer was born Oct 25, 1888 in Wrights, son of
Malcolm &I Sara (Brock) Worley. He had lived in the Kane area
for many yrs before moving to Jerseyville. Mr Worley had worked
at the Jersey Theatre at one time. He is survived by his wife,
Goldie (Quinn) Worley; 1 son, Glenn, Los Angeles, CA; 4 daus,
Mrs Loretta Frost, Los Angeles, Mrs Marie McFain, and Mrs
Eleanor Witt, Jerseyville and Mrs Mae Scoggins, Greenfield; 11
grandchildren; 10 g-grandchildren; 2 bros, Lee and Louis, both
of Alton; and 3 sis, Mrs Flossie Armstrong and Mrs Goldie
Brannan of Wrights and Mrs Verma Davis, Alton.
Goldie M Worley, 76 yrs, 8 mo, 22 days, died
July 14 [1970], at Alton Mem Hosp where she had submitted to
surgery the previous day. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral
Home in Jerseyville. Final rites were held at Gubser Funeral
Home in Jerseyville. Rev George McCarty, E Alton officiated and
burial was in Oak Grove Cem. Mrs Worley, was widow of Clarence
Worley whose death occurred in April. She was dau of the late
Thomas & Elizabeth (Easton) Quinn and was born Oct 22 1893.
Surviving are 1 son, Glenn Worley, Los Angeles, CA; 4 daus, Mrs
Jack (Loretta) Frost, Los Angeles, Mrs Paul (Marie) McFain and
Mrs George (Eleanor) Witt, Jerseyville, and Mrs William (Mae)
Scoggins of Greenfield; 11 grandchildren; and 10
g-grandchildren.
Charlotte Worsham, 70, of Jerseyville died
Nov 2 [1978] at St Mary Medical Center, St Louis where she had
been a patient for 2 mos. Funeral rites were conducted at First
Baptist Church by Rev Willard Foote, interim pastor. Burial was
in Carrollton City Cem. Mrs Worsham was owner operator of
Worsham' Beauty Shop for 47 yrs. She was born May 12, 1908 in
Greene Co, dau of the late Absolam & Julia (Winkler) Wood. She
is survived by her husband, Ora C Worsham whom she married May
26, 1934; 1 dau, Betty Dirks, San Antonio, TX; 1 son, Charles,
Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; 2 sis, Mary
Wood, Carrollton and Julia Alice Wood, Pittsfield. Memorials may
be given to First Baptist Church.
Ora C Worsham, 80, Jerseyville barber for
over 50 yrs, died Feb 22, 1983 at Deconess Hosp, St Louis where
he had been a patient for several wks. Services were held at
First Baptist Church by Rev V Clay Noah. He was born Sept 11,
1902 in Moweaqua and was owner of Worsham Barber Shop. His wife,
Charlotte (Wood) Worsham, died Nov 2, 1978. Surviving are 1 dau,
Betty Dirks, Bryan, TX; 1 son, Charles Worsham, Jerseyville; 7
grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren; and 1 bro, Wave Worsham of
Moweaqua. He was a member of First Baptist Church and
Jerseyville Elks Lodge. Burial was in Carrollton City Cem.
Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church.

worker. Surviving are 3 sis, Mrs Meda Plattner, Cliston, Mrs

Brighton and 1 bro, David Worthey, Carrollton. Visitation was
March 29, at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville where services
were conducted. Cremation followed with interment of remains in

Elsie Janelle Worthey, 77, d Aug 15 [1990]
at Greenwood Manor, Jerseyville. She was born in Roodhouse, dau
of the late Percy & Myrtle (Beckham) Bright. Her husband,
Francis Worthey, d Nov 15, 1977. Her sister, Clorene Thomas of
Mexico, MO survives. Preceding her in death were 3 sis, Mary
Margaret Cockrell and Iola and Rowena Bright. Visitation was
from Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Simon A
Simon officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cem. Memorials may be

Fred Wylder, 72 yrs, 3mo, 26 days, a native
of Greene Co, died Apr 28 [1956], at the home of his son-in-law
and dau, Mr & Mrs Walter T Greer in Elsah. He had been ill for
some time. He was born near Greenfield, Jan 2, 1884, son of the
late Worth & Temperance Faith Wylder. He is survived by 2 daus,

William Jasper Wylder, 76 yrs, 10 mo, 18
days, prominent resident of Morgan Co, passed away at the home
of his Dau, Mrs Thomas Paschall at Chapin. He was the son of
Wiley & Temperance Wylder and was born in Greene Co March 4,
1833. He spent his boyhood near Greenfield. On Jan 29, 1853, he
married Willmotte (Jones) Wylder, their only child was Mrs Anna
Paschaall of Chapin. He was reared in the Methodist Episcopal
Church, and after reaching manhood united with the Christian
Church of which he was still a member at his death. He came to
Morgan Co in 1857, and settled on a farm near Markham, where he
resided until 1871, when he moved to his new, modern house on or
near the old home. His wife died March 4, 1965, from which time
he had lived with his dau. In his later yrs, he took much
interest in the new Church in Chapin and through his efforts and
contributions, it was finished. In Politics he was a life-long
Republican and had voted for Fremont in 1856. His illness was as
a result of 2 strokes the last having been on Jan 10. He was the
last of a family of 11 children, 7 sons and 4 daus. He was an
uncle of Rev J L Wylder, Jacksonville. [Feb 1908]
